Mirabel Nangeh Ngam (assistant teacher)

“If you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it, then what you are undergoes a transformation.” – Jiddu Krishnamurti

What inspires you to be an assistant teacher?
Is this the right program for me? Is it worth the investment? Am I too old for this? These questions and more assailed me when I sat down in class on the first day. As I learned about the building blocks of a coaching conversation, the weaknesses of my intuitive counselling style were laid bare. From that moment I could not wait for the next class day as the quality of my daily conversations with family and friends improved, so too my relationships became better, healthier and impactful.

The thirst for the healing waters of personal growth and transformation grew with the realisation that before I could heal others, I had to heal myself. It was in giving that I would receive. In teaching that I am taught.

Having taught in different spaces before and passionate about helping people realise their full potential, the interactive, student-centred teaching approach at ACC aligns with my belief that learning should be fun, empowering and transformative.

About me
Nestled in the hills of Boyo-Cameroon, is a tranquil village with lush vegetation and trickling springs. Our homestead was abuzz with the laughter and squabbles of six siblings and numerous cousins. Children belonged to the community and every adult felt the responsibility to care, disciple and protect the next generation.

Straight after graduating from University, I taught in a High School for several years, following in the footsteps of my parents. I had to leave my homeland to live abroad due to the exigencies of work. As my family crisscrossed African and finally settled in the Netherlands, my career took a back seat but I continued studying, obtaining an MBA in Management.

My probing, ever inquisitive mind realised that suffering was universal. The hunger for meaning and fulfilment plagues all Men. Grief, anguish, pain and loneliness know no boundary and common to all. A search for answers led me to discover the transformative power of meditation, which I now teach, and the urgency to understand unconscious drives in our lives.

The 2 year training program with ACC launched my journey into the understanding of my inner landscape. As I observe the subtle changes and transformation arising in myself and in clients, I am empowered to further explore and venture into new terrains in the psychic.

Why have you chosen the ACC and what did the training bring you?
The ACC provided the right conditions and environment to further my personal growth and self-discovery. It provided a safe, conducive and lively group of like minded seekers. A group of people desiring not only to change the world but themselves.

The program also equipped me with a tool kit, useful not only for clients but life in general; personal development, wellbeing, family constellations, work, grief and trauma. It’s offering is extensive and comprehensive.

Non-violent communication has proven to be a tool which I use not only with clients but in interactions with friends, family and strangers.

The introduction to Socratic questioning, taught in the first day of class, and its power to unearth, heal and guide self-discovery is proving invaluable in changing the lives of clients.

Who is my hero and why?
My grandmother’s, Big Mammy, coarse hands wiping away my tears and feeding me delicious treats taught me what to value the most in life.

My father through his gentle and patient approach to parenting , he filled me with an incredible amount of curiosity to explore different things, to never get frustrated, be authentic. think critically, question everything and never stop learning. His lessons shaped the values and principles that I bring to everything that I do.
